Founded in 1927, St. Francis Yacht Club is steeped in nearly a century of yachting traditions. From the beginning, St. Francis Yacht Club’s membership has included many of the Bay Area’s most prominent citizens and greatest sailors. The Club’s annual regatta schedule is one of the most active in the world and it has been consistently rated the #1 Yacht Club in America. Career opportunities at StFYC are many and varied—with three dining facilities, private party and event spaces, docks and small boat fleets, a robust 2,400+ membership, and a private island in the Delta—the club requires a talented staff to meet the needs of members and guests and to maintain its top-notch facilities.

 

One Club, Two Locations

San Francisco & Tinsley Island

St. Francis Yacht Club’s facilities include the city clubhouse, an historic Mission-style building on the waterfront adjacent to Crissy Field and the Marina District of San Francisco, and Tinsley Island, a 40-acre private island in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The city clubhouse provides a boating and social venue for members and their guests, featuring deep-water docks, three outstanding dining rooms and incredible event spaces with vistas of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay. Tinsley Island is approximately 60 miles from the clubhouse and accessed by a Club-owned launch or private boat. This year-round getaway for Members features docking and houseboats, on-island lodging and kitchen facilities, a swimming pool, small boat fleet for member use and a variety of other diversions in a rustic, relaxed setting.

  • Porters
    • JOB TITLE: Porter

      SUMMARY: Cleans all club facilities.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

      • Cleans and polishes lighting fixtures, brass fixtures, club art, tile surfaces, and trim.
      • Cleans rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms (sauna and steam rooms) and other Club areas as trained.
      • Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floor.
      • Washes inside and outside of windows.  
      • Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies.
      • Dusts furniture and equipment.
      • Polishes metalwork.
      • Washes walls, ceiling, and woodwork. 
      • Empties waste containers; empties and cleans outdoor ashcans.
      • Keeps immediate areas outside of clubhouse clean and tidy.
      • Transports trash and waste to disposal area.
      • Assists dishwasher in putting garbage containers outside for pickup and bringing them back into Club in the morning.
      • Replenishes bathroom supplies.
      • Replaces light bulbs.
      • May assist in delivering messages.
      • May transport small equipment and furniture between departments. 
      • May assist in set up of tables and chairs in Club Rooms.

      LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. 

      MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

  • Servers
    • JOB TITLE: Server for à la carte dining

      SUMMARY: Sets tables and serves meals to members and guests according to established rules of etiquette and performs other duties to furnish satisfactory service.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

      • Ensure tables in station are set up properly and completely.
      • Set-up side station and perform assigned side-duties.
      • Ability to successfully oversee an entire station as designated by the captain or dining room manager.
      • Ability to anticipate the needs and requests of members and guests.
      • Attends pre-meal meeting to receive instruction about menu and service from captain.
      • Knows all menu items including their ingredients, presentation, and methods of preparation, and does not serve items prepared incorrectly.
      • Delivers the special menu verbally, answers questions and makes suggestions regarding food, wine and service.
      • Uses proper P.O.S. (Point of Sale) procedure: Enters order on P.O.S. using proper procedure-so back waiter or captain may serve meal without asking the guest 'Who gets what'.
      • Ability to operate all job-related equipment to include but not limited to POS, coffee machines, espresso machine, blender.
      • Ability to serve members or guests their meal in a timely manner; places tray on stand near table being served; places dishes, by course, in front of each person, serving ladies first from the left of the guest.
      • Checks back within two minutes and remains attentive to table to ensure guest satisfaction.
      • Observes diners to respond to any additional requests and to determine when meal has been completed.
      • Offers members or guests dessert and coffee drinks.
      • Must be able to comfortable and consistently lift up to 50 pounds as needed to perform the basic duties of a server.
      • Verifies accuracy of guest check while processing it through POS System.
      • Presents check and oversees member charges as applicable.
      • Advises supervisor of any complaints and compliments as soon as they occur.
      • Helps clear and set tables; carries trays of dirty dishes to dishwashing area.
      • Performs clean-up and closing duties as assigned.
      • When necessary, assists other servers attend to their tables.

  • Bussers
    • JOB TITLE: Busser

      SUMMARY: Sets and cleans dining room tables before during and after meal service. Assists wait staff in all of their duties.
       
      ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

      • Doublecheck set up of tables. Put missing items on the tables.
      • Communicate with captain in regard to required sizes of tables according to reservations.
      • Remove extra place settings and take to side stand.
      • Bring bread, butter and vegetable tray to table within three minutes of guests being seated.
      • Bring ice water to tables when asked and then constantly monitor water levels repouring when a glass is less than half full.
      • Assist servers with clearing of courses.
      • Consistently lift bus tubs weighing up to 50 pounds.
      • Monitor service trays to prevent becoming over-stacked with dirty dishes.
      • Organize bussed dishes on service trays with silverware in one area and dishes of common size stacked neatly.
      • Keep all side stations clean and orderly. Refill coffee, iced tea and water as needed.
      • Assist waiter in coffee and dessert service and anything else the waiter may need.
      • Respond appropriately to members' requests and direct waiters attention to tables that require their service.
      • Continuously monitor every table, clear entire table immediately and reset as soon as possible. Be sure to wipe off chairs.
      • Clean outside stands removing water, coffee, tea, cream, etc.
      • Fold napkins and reset tables for next service.
      • Clear dirty ashtrays by replacing with clean ashtrays.
      • Properly and efficiently inputs and charges all member or guest drinks in bar areas.
      • When necessary, takes food orders for members or guests sitting at the bar.
      • Assists in MDR and Grill service whenever possible helping waiters serve drinks and food.
      • Ability to take food orders in absence of a waiter.
      • Responsible for cleanliness of bar area.
      • Assists in taking inventory and maintaining records indicating which drinks and liquors are in the greatest demand.
      • Reports complaints to manager as soon as they occur.
      • At end of shift, closes out accounts on point-of-sales equipment.
      • Consistently complies with all state, local and club laws/policies related to the service of alcohol.
