The Knarr class is one of the most competitive classes on the SF Bay. They are also one of the closest – many have been racing in this fleet for over 35 years. Coming off the 37th annual International Knarr Championship in Oslo, Norway in early August with the top three winners out of 25 boats being from the U.S., this year’s Match Race should be very tough (the three winners were StFYC members, Jon Perkins, Chris Perkins and Knud Wibroe). Congratulations!!!
The Knarr racers are excellent sailors, they know the bay intimately (if you want to know what the current is doing, watch a Knarr race), and are all very good friends. This event showcases that unusual combination.
These races will be short sprints, a round robin format with each team racing against each of the other seven teams once (about 30 races). The two finalists will compete in a showdown with either one final race or best out of 3 (TBD). Then off to the bar for recounting the races and lots and lots of camaraderie.
