The Finn dinghy is the men's single-handed, cat-rigged Olympic class for sailing. It was designed by Swedish canoe designer, Rickard Sarby, in 1949 for the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki. Since the 1952 debut of the boat, the design has been in every summer Olympics, making it one of the most prolific Olympic sailboats. Finn World Champions and Olympic Medalists include Paul Elvstrom, Russell Coutts, John Bertrand (USA), John Bertrand (AUS), Peter Holmberg, John Cutler, Brian Ledbetter, Iain Percy, Mateusz Kusznierewicz, Ben Ainsle and Zach Railey.
St. Francis Olympians in the Finn Class include John Bertrand, Russ Silvestri, Ed Bennett and Zach Railey. The Finn Dinghy is a significant part of our StFYC heritage and hosting a Finn Gold Cup is a major event for St Francis Yacht Club. Be a part of this excitement.
I hope you can join us.
