U.S. WINDSURFING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

NOTICE OF RACE

1.      INVITATION

US Windsurfing, the San Francisco Bay Windsurfing Fleet, and the St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco, California, cordially invite you to attend the 2004 USW National Championships to be held Monday, July 12 through Saturday, July 17, 2004 on the waters of San Francisco Bay.

 

2.      LOCAL ORGANIZING AUTHORITY

This event is recognized and sanctioned by US Windsurfing as the 2004 National Championships. The Local Organizing Authority (LOA) will be the St. Francis Yacht Club, for and on behalf of and under the specified conditions laid down by the International Formula Windsurfing Association (IFWA), and the United States Windsurfing (USW).

 

3.      RULES

This regatta shall be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the 2001/2004 Fun Board Racing Rules (FRR), and the IFWA Class Rules & Championship Racing Guidelines.

 

4.       ADVERTISING

The IFWA is a category ‘C’ class as set out in the ISAF Regulation 20 – Advertising Code.  Competitors who have their own sponsorship are asked to notify the LOA in writing of their sponsor. Competitors may be required to wear sponsor vest and or sail stickers on sails. 

5.      SAFETY

All competitors shall wear full wetsuits.  Half wetsuits will not be allowed. Water temperature will average 58-60 degrees Fahrenheit. Bay winds are from 15 – 30 knots. The wind minimum for starting a race will be 8 knots.

 

6.      ELIGIBILITY

All entries shall meet the requirements of the ISAF RRS Appendices Section 2 – Part 2 – Appendix 2. All competitors must be current members of US Windsurfing.  Competitors may register with US Windsurfing on site.  Foreign Competitors shall be paid up members of a National FW Assoc. or of the IFWC. National Associations shall be paid up members of the International Windsurfing Association.

 

 

7.      DISCIPLINE

For the determination of the USW National Champions, the disciplines will be: Course Racing and Long Distance. Slalom results will not be counted in a competitors’ overall score and equipment will be Open.

 

8.                    CLASSES  / DIVISIONS

Classes or a Division within a Class with eight (8) or less competitors may be combined at the discretion of the LOA.  Additional fleets may be recognized, such as Formula Experience, IMCO, Techno, and Open.

A competitor must have reached the minimum age limit, in the relevant division, by Dec 31st 2003. A competitor must not be older then the maximum age limit, in the relevant division, by Dec 31st 2004.

 

9. ENTRY

Entry Forms may be found on the Club web site www.stfyc.com. Entry Forms should be returned to the St. Francis YC Race Office by mail or fax by June 28th, 2004 to avoid late fee. The Entry fee is $145, if received by June 28th. The Entry fee is $175, if received after June 28th. Junior Entry Fee is $100, if received by June 28th , and  $130, if received after this date. Late registration and Check-In will begin at 1200 hours and close at 1700 hours on July 12th, 2004.

11.                SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

Sailing Instructions will be available at registration as well as published on the website by July 12, 2004.

 

12. RACING AREA

Racing will take place on the City Front Racing Area, San Francisco Bay.

 

 

  1. SCORING SYSTEM

The Low Point Scoring System, Appendix A of the Racing Rules, will apply except that a competitor’s result in the Long Distance Race will be counted twice in their total score. (For example: LD Race = Two Course Races: If you place 30th in the Long Distance / Race #5, you will also receive 30 pts for Race #6.) Twelve races are scheduled in the series. When ten or more races have been completed, a competitor’s series score will be the total of their scores excluding their worst score. Three races will constitute a series.Racing will take place on the City Front Racing Area, San Francisco Bay.

 

14.                    COMPETITOR IDENTIFICATION

At registration the LOA intends to check for compliance with IFWC class rule 2.6. Identifications Marks. Competitors must register with the sail number they plan to race with or notify the Race Committee in writing of any changes before racing. 

 

15.                SOCIAL

Social events will follow racing every night pending sponsorship. A welcoming reception is planned at the St. Francis YC for all competitors and their guests for Tuesday, July 13th, as well as a Trophy Ceremony on Saturday July 17th.
