Intro to FJ Racing Practices (Tues-Friday) and Regattas
420 Race Team Practices (Tues- Thursday) and Regattas
The High School Sailing Program provides an opportunity to sail, race and travel to regattas to compete against other high school teams in regattas. At the highest level, high school sailing leads to national competitions.
Currently 102 schools in California and Hawaii are registered in the Pacific Coast Interscholastic Sailing Association (PCISA). Eligibility is open to boys and girls in ninth through twelfth grades. The northern California region sponsors at least nine regattas each school year and PCISA holds five regattas spread throughout the state.
The St. Francis Yacht Club supports all metro San Francisco teams. StFYC supplies boats, coaches, trailers, hot showers and much more. Currently there are over 55 sailors who sail two- three days a week at the St Francis Yacht Club. It is required that the sailors work with their schools and team parents to set up a “work out” two days a week. This is a requirement new to the program this year. This creates an opportunity for sailors to be active four days a week throughout the season. Sailors are expected to be at 75% of the practices or they will not be eligible to continue on the team. Regatta attendance is required as well. Sailors are expected to participate in the 5 PCISA Regattas and at least 6 of the 11 Northern California events.
