Commodore's Cruise

The annual Commodore's Cruise is an opportunity for our members to enjoy the camaraderie of our Club while traveling together to a destination selected by that year's Commodore.

2019 Commodore's Cruise to Fiji

August 10-17, 2019

We’ve custom-designed an intimate cruise beyond the typical tourist’s stomping grounds to some of the more remote and lesser visited islands of Fiji. Starting on the main island of Vanua Levu, with stops at smaller islands in between, we’ll experience the full breadth of Fiji’s natural and cultural delights in just a week of cruising.

THE SCHEDULE

Saturday, August 10: Arrive at Port Denerau Marina and Travel to Tivua Island

Welcome aboard with a complimentary fruit punch and salusalu (lei) as we set sail for our Fiji Island adventure. This afternoon we’ll visit Captain Cook Cruise Line’s exclusive island Tivua, where you can enjoy a twilight swim, snorkel or relax on the beach, followed by a special Welcome Dinner and Crew Introduction.

Sunday, August 11: Wairiki and the 180th Meridian

For an experience not to be missed, join the special choral church service at Wairiki on the western side of Taveuni. Taveuni Island lies on the 180th Meridian, the arbitrary line between today and tomorrow. After the service, our crew will take you to the famous Dateline where you can literally stand with one foot in the past and one foot in the future. Following a lovely lunch back aboard Reef Endeavour there will be the opportunity to dive and snorkel the reefs in this soft coral capital of the world.

Monday, August 12: Bouma Waterfall/Naselesele

Taveuni is called the “Garden Island” of Fiji and this morning we’ll disembark on the western side for an optional bus tour to the Bouma Waterfall where you can swim and relax in the beautiful setting. This evening we will be visiting Naselesele Village to enjoy the tastes of Fiji with a traditional “lovo” (earth oven) feast of fresh local seafood, roasted meat, and succulent tropical fruits. Then we’ll dance to the drum of the meke and have a kava ceremony.

Tuesday, August 13 - Wednesday, August 14: Vanuabalavu—Bay of Islands

Qilaqila, at the northwest end of Vanuabalavu, is known for its pristine waters, limestone caves and mushroom shaped islands. This is also known as the Bay of Islands and is famous for its amazing scenery and pristine reefs. Explore this precious environment with our Marine Biologist and expert guides. Spend the day in the water snorkeling or paddling a SUP or kayak; explore the unique limestone caves; or venture ashore to meet the locals of this amazing settlement, which only sees an occasional cruising sailor and the supply boat only calls in every six weeks.

Thursday, August 15: Levuka

This morning we’ll arrive at the port of Levuka on the island Ovalau, situated off the northeast coast of the main island. Levuka was the first European settlement in Fiji and became the center of British colonial administration and trade. At its peak, over 50 hotels catered to the thirst of sailors in port and the town gained a wild reputation. In 1888 the capital was moved to Suva on the main island, and Levuka’s notoriety gradually waned. Passengers are invited to join an optional tour of this now quiet historic town with its stately backdrop of 19th Century colonial architecture and waterfront promenades. In the afternoon we’ll visit the children of Marist Convent Primary School.

Friday, August 16: Nananu-I-ra, Viti Levu Bay, North Coast of Viti Levu

Cruising southwest from Vanua Levu we arrive at Nananu-i-ra on the northern coast of Viti Levu. Spend the morning on this beautiful beach swimming, snorkeling, beachcombing or lazing in the sun. After lunch there will be a final opportunity ashore before we begin our homeward journey. This evening don your sulu (sarong) and join all the celebrations of our Pacific Island Night Finale.
 Saturday, August 17: Nadi

Enjoy breakfast before we disembark at Port Denarau Marina with farewell Isa Lei, at 9:00am.
