January 17: Tales of The Yankee – StFYC Flagship for Five Commodores

John McNeill, Staff Commodore, Skipper and Servant of the Yacht Yankee

If you’ve looked around the Clubhouse or read the 75th Anniversary Book, you already know of the famed schooner Yankee. The incredulous tale of her premature launching by the great San Francisco earthquake in April 1906 has been recounted a thousand times. During her 111 years of sailing the Bay, this historic vessel has witnessed hundreds of interesting, often hilarious, tales. From winning the first Farallon Race in 1907 to the Season Championship of the Master Mariners in 2015, she has enjoyed a century of active sailing, nearly every Stag Cruise and an amazing cast of St. Francis characters. Staff Commodore John McNeill will reveal untold tales and little seen photos of the Yankee from his musty archives.
