with Liz Baylis, assisted by Nicole Breault other Vela Racing teammates

Date:
April 27-29, 2018

Location: St. Francis Yacht Club, San Francisco, CA

Cost: $400/team

The Participants: This “clinegatta” is for all-female or mixed (50/50) gender teams of four with some match racing experience who want to gain more. There are eight spots available to qualified female skippers only. This will be a great training opportunity for teams hoping to compete in the 2018 US Women’s Match Racing Championship, hosted by StFYC August 23-26.

The Coaching: Former world champion match racer Liz Baylis will lead the coaching team. She will be assisted by defending US champion Nicole Breault and members of her Vela Racing team. Topics will include advanced J/22 handling, rules & tactics of match racing, plus adapting strategies to the sailing conditions along the StFYC waterfront. Friday and Saturday will consist of on-the-water drills and classroom sessions, while Sunday will be an official race day.

About Liz: Liz Baylis was locally born and raised on the windy waters of San Francisco Bay. In addition to having extensive experience as an offshore racer, Liz is a famous match racer and champion of the Women’s International Match Racing Association (WIMRA), founded to promote match racing for women around the world and instrumental in bringing match racing to the 2008 London Olympic Games. Liz was a member of America True during the 2000 Louis Vuitton Cup, the challenge qualifier for the America’s Cup. As a skipper, she has won multiple grade 1 match racing events, including the 2002 ISAF Women's Match Racing World Championship. In 2002 she was named the US Rolex Yachtswomen of the Year. Liz, in her role as the Executive Director of the WIMRA, with her organizational efforts to steer the WIM Series professional match racing series for women, and as the current Chairman of the World Sailing Match Racing Committee, is one of the key leaders of the game, making it happen for aspiring match racers around the globe.

About Nicole: Nicole Breault is a two-time US Women’s Match Race champion, a winning mainsail trimmer/tactician on a bicoastal J/105 program, and an active volunteer coach with a professional history in education. In 2015, St. Francis Yacht Club named her Sailor of the Year; in 2016 she was the StFYC Yachtswoman of the Year, and in 2017 the StFYC Yachtsman of the Year.
