May 27: The First Sailor Inducted into the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame 

Paul Cayard, 7X World Champion, Rolex Yachtsman of the Year, 7 America’s Cups, StFYC Chairman

"As an 8-year-old boy, I remember helping my dad put our homemade El Toro into Lake Merced. I could have never imagined this honor.” Paul’s career took him from crewing for Tom Blackaller, to multiple World Championships, the Olympic Games, laps around the world and America’s Cup campaigns. Cayard’s career is unique in that he has competed successfully in practically every facet of our sport. “As a native of this city and graduate of San Francisco State, I am flattered. More than the honor for myself, I am very happy the sport of sailing is being recognized in this arena.” Cayard will be inducted with baseball Hall of Famer Ricky Henderson, 3-time World Series Champion Bruce Bochy, 12-time Olympic Medalist Natalie Coughlin and Super Bowl winner Bryant Young.
