June 3: How the 49ers Sailed Through the Gate—SF’s Maritime Heritage
David Brouillette, Superintendent, San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park

Dave is a 40-year veteran of the National Park Service and has worked at three of the parks devoted to ships and maritime history. In addition to a museum, a pier and the largest collection of artifacts and archives in the entire National Park system, Dave is responsible for seven historic sail and power craft. He loves to share the colorful history of his fleet, including: the majestic 301ft square-rigger
Balclutha, which regularly carried goods around Cape Horn; the 151ft steam-powered tugboat Hercules, which towed her sister ship around Cape Horn; and the 80ft scow-schooner Alma, which still sails the Bay. Dave is a living library of little-known facts and stories about San Francisco’s maritime heritage.
