America’s Cup Preview: Will Breeze Blow in Barcelona? Will AC 75s go 50 Knots?

The 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona, Spain, this October will be exciting! Originally raced in wooden schooners traveling at 10 knots, this Cup will see carbon-fiber monohulls foiling above the water at 40 knots. New York Yacht Club’s American Magic is one of five international challengers trying to wrest the Cup from New Zealand. To challenge New Zealand, the American crew aboard New York Yacht Club’s Patriot must defeat four other teams. America’s Cup Hall of Fame sailor Gary Jobson will share his invaluable insights on what’s new with the oldest competition in sport. During a Wednesday Yachting Luncheon in 2021, Jobson precisely predicted that New Zealand would beat Challenger Italy seven races to three. He will also preview sailing in the Paris Olympics and share stories from his latest book, The Characters of the America’s Cup.
