Just Another Day at the Office for a Boy Who Dreamed of Driving a Tugboat 

Shawn Bennett, CEO, Baydelta Maritime; Champion Sailor 

After graduating from USC’s School of International Relations, Shawn Bennett went into the container shipping business at Sea-Land. In 2013, he transitioned to the tugboat business. Shawn rapidly developed from a promising dinghy sailor in Southern California into an internationally acclaimed yacht racer, but today we get to hear about his day job as the owner of Baydelta Maritime, a locally headquartered tugboat company. Baydelta runs a fleet of the most powerful harbor tugs in California with a focus on safely escorting the largest ships in and out of West Coast harbors. Shawn will explain the tugboat business, from day-to-day activities to some harrowing operations, including the complicated vessel rescues they performed as “just another day at the office.”
