It’s Going to Be an “Entertaining” Year!
Entertainment Chairperson Amy Dailey is rolling out all the stops to make this year truly entertaining! Check out the schedule of Wednesday Lives and Club Events, including a special Opening Day on the Bay weekend that will celebrate the Club’s 90th Anniversary and the Bay’s 100th Opening Day.
It’s Going to Be an “Entertaining” Year!

By Amy Dailey, Entertainment Committee Chairperson

I would like to start by thanking Commodore Jim Kiriakis for entrusting me to chair the Entertainment Committee this year. I look forward to working with Jim and our committee regulars! I would also like to thank the inimitable Dudley Fournier for chairing the Entertainment Committee for the past three years. Dudley was a great leader who oversaw the planning and execution of so many successful events. I was his Vice Chair for the past two years and learned a lot; I am so grateful he will still be part of our committee in 2017, serving as our Associate Member liaison. We also very much look forward to working with Jen McHugh, our committee’s new Vice Chair, and Joyce Shiarella, who will once again be our Secretary extraordinaire.

Our first event of the year was the New Year’s Circus Extravaganza, which Martha and Carroll Peterson organized with their usual skill and taste. Kirsten Nusser, Bob LaRocca and the rest of their team transformed the Club into a big top full of fun and music. Ross Shiveley served as our dapper Ringmaster, greeting each guest as we arrived, and of course Noel Omila and his smiling face checked us in and gave us our tickets. Thank you all for helping us ring in the new year in style!

Our first of eight Wednesday Lives for 2017 was in January and featured Stephanie Teel and her band. Stephanie is one of my favorite StFYC Associate Members and her show was awesome as always. If you’re not familiar with these shows, I highly recommend you check out the next one on March 8th at 6:00pm. During Wednesday Lives, our talented Associate Members take the stage for a free concert. The Club provides complimentary cheese and crackers and there’s always a bartender on hand for no-host refreshments. All members are welcome and encouraged to bring guests. We are so lucky to have a long list of artists in our membership and these shows always make for a lovely happy hour. If you plan to stay for dinner, reservations are recommended.

Come April, mark your calendars for a special weekend from April 21-23. 2017 marks the Club’s 90th birthday and we will kick off the weekend with a grand Birthday Party on Friday night. Saturday is the Intraclub Regatta and Sunday, April 23rd is Opening Day. What’s more, it is the 100th anniversary of the Pacific Interclub Yacht Association’s Opening Day on the Bay. This popular event is always a blast and our Club is the place to be. Mark your calendars now for a weekend of celebrating all that is marvelous about St. Francis Yacht Club and the San Francisco Bay!

The following month, our Associate Members will treat us to more performances. The High Seas Spring Show is on Saturday, May 6 at 6:00pm and the Sons of the Sea Spring Concert is on Sunday, May 21 at 4:00pm. I said it before and I’ll say it again: our membership is chockfull of talent and we are fortunate they love to play for us.

After a summer break with plenty of Tinsley time, the Entertainment Committee will focus on our fall and winter events including Father Daughter Dinner Dance, Commodore’s Ball, Children’s Holiday Party, Member’s Holiday Party, Father Son Luncheon and New Year’s Eve. Our Club Events staff is the best in the business so planning these events with them is always a good time. If you are interested in helping, we would love to have you. We have a strong team of committee regulars and all are welcome to join our monthly meetings. We are an “open” committee and meet at 6:30pm every third Wednesday of the month. We would love to see you there!
