From the COO/GM: The Best of 2017
“December is our busiest month at St. Francis Yacht Club, and probably the most fun for the staff. December also marks the end of an amazing year. Looking back on 2017, several events are prominent in my memory.”

The Best of 2017

December is our busiest month at St. Francis Yacht Club. It is also probably the most fun for the staff. We look forward to all of the parties and events, and to creating memorable experiences for our members, their families, and guests. December also marks the end of an amazing year. Looking back on 2017, several events are prominent in my memory, with a few standing out as exceptional:

90th Anniversary Party
This was a one-of-a-kind event—the kind that only comes around once a decade. The clubhouse was transformed back to the 1920s, with a speakeasy spanning the Northwest Room, Trophy Lounge and Grill. In the Golden Gate Room, members were treated to an interactive museum of the Club’s rich history. The Main Dining Room was a celebration in and of itself (I’ll never forget the doughnut wall) and the members looked exquisite in their Roaring Twenties get-ups. The staff had a great time planning and executing this party and we felt it was the highlight of our year.

Vintners’ Night
What other Club can say it hosted 70 of the top wineries of Napa and Sonoma along with 600 of their members and guests? With the spectacular décor, creative food (those pork belly sliders!), and plentiful wine, it was arguably the best Vintners’ Night we’ve ever hosted.

Rolex Big Boat Series
Ninety boats and over 900 competitors braved some very challenging conditions during the 53rd running of our signature regatta. After each full day of sailing, the social events found throngs of competitors swapping hair-raising tales of their day on the water, grinning from ear to ear. Huge thanks to our sponsor Rolex for helping us make this the premier west coast regatta, and to our Race Department, Executive Race Committee and RC volunteers for making it all go off without a hitch.

Fleet Week
The City sprang to life and it was incredible to have a front row seat to one of the most amazing air shows in the nation. Watching from the Race Deck, it sometimes felt like the show was just for our members. From the biplane doing flips, to a 747 flying so low I thought it would touch the Bay, to the Blue Angels expertly synchronizing their stunts, this show was truly spectacular. It was also an honor to welcome so many civic and military leaders to our Club during the Parade of Ships.

Now that I have been General Manager here for over a year, I can see why we’re voted the #1 yacht club in America. Our location, our membership, our events, our regattas and our staff make it all possible. If I wasn’t the GM here, I’d be applying for membership.

In closing, if you haven’t already done so, please remember to make your Employee Holiday Fund contribution either by returning the form you received in the mail, or visiting stfyc.com and navigating to “Member Info” then “Giving”. If you have already contributed, the staff sends their appreciation.

Happy holidays to all and to all a good night.
