Mainsheet: When did you start working at StFYC and what did you do before?
Jennifer Ingham: I’ve been here for eight years. I can’t believe how fast the time has gone! My first job was at UCSF as an administrative assistant, but I didn’t like being in an office all day, so I looked for a place I could be busy and move a lot. I started at StFYC in Catering, then worked as a bartender and server before moving to the Main Dining Room where I’ve been ever since. I love the people I work with and how we work as a team every day, from the kitchen to the dishwashers to the servers.
MS: Tell us about a typical day for you.
Jennifer: I take a lot of pride in making the seating chart for each night. It’s really important to me that the servers are happy and feel comfortable and that the members are paired with a server who complements their style, ensuring a good night for everyone. I’ve gotten to know the members over time and what they’re looking for, but every night is different. Some nights we’re super busy with lots of parties and everyone needing to be on their game. Other nights, it’s quieter with more opportunities to connect one-on-one with the members.
MS: Sounds like you’re kind of the Dining Room matchmaker?
Jennifer: I guess so! Putting people at the right table is important, and it all happens behind the scenes. I want the members to be happy, and I want them to come back. It’s felt nice recently to hear members say how happy they are, and that they feel there’s a good team in place.
MS: What’s your favorite night of the week?
Jennifer: Saturday, our Steak & Lobster night. That tends to be a special night out when members come in with family and friends to enjoy their Club and maybe even show it off. They want to be here and to be taken care of, and that feels really good.
MS: What do you like about working in a club setting?
Jennifer: I went out to eat at a restaurant in the city last week and noticed that the servers had to deal with different diners every single night. Here, we get to know our “diners”—the members. We meet their grandkids and we watch their families grow. That part is really sweet.
MS: Tell us about your own family.
Jennifer: My husband, David, and I have been married for ten years and together for twenty years—we started dating in high school! We have two kids, a son and a daughter. David and I are both huge Giants and 49er fans—I have so many great memories of tailgating in my family’s RV at Candlestick Park. We were heartbroken when they left Candlestick and my husband has been protesting ever since!
MS: What do you like to do with your family?
Jennifer: We love to vacation and just got back from a trip to Hawaii. In the summers, we go to Tahoe and hang out at my family’s cabin where we waterski, hike and spend time outside. I also love to cook—I get all my best recipes from Pinterest!
MS: Favorite TV Show?
Jennifer: I like cooking shows, especially Anthony Bourdain and his traveling food shows.
MS: What’s your dream vacation?
Jennifer: I’ve always wanted to go to one of those resorts with the huts suspended over the beach. I’d want it to be somewhere super tropical where I can enjoy a nice cocktail in the sun. Maybe Fiji or the Maldives.
MS: If you could have dinner with one celebrity, who would you chose?
Jennifer: Beyonce. I think she’s amazing. Her voice, what she stands for, everything about her. She just gives you chills when she performs, she’s so real. I saw her live at AT&T Park and was totally blown away. She was even better in person!
MS: Anything else you want to tell us before we say goodbye?
Jennifer: I always tell people that I have the best office in the city. The view is amazing and it changes all the time. A purple sunset, mysterious clouds, whales breeching. I love to share it with the members and their families!
