Cruising into Spring

Upon joining the St. Francis Yacht Club, one of the first things I was excited about was getting involved and getting to know fellow members. For my husband, Bruce, and I, this happened naturally through the StFYC Cruisers’ Group. This active contingent of interesting members allowed us to meet and get to know new people, all while exploring new destinations. Today, I hold this group near and dear to my heart, and reflect fondly on all of the places I have visited and events I have shared with these avid boaters and cruisers of both the powerboat and sailboat persuasion.

As you read this, the Cruisers of the St. Francis Yacht Club have already completed three of our monthly meetings, which are always held on the first Thursday of each month and are always open to all members (I welcome you to come and join us!). During one meeting, we hosted a clean boating seminar with guest speakers from the Estuary Project and the California Department of Waterways. We have also already cruised to the Marin Yacht Club and to South Beach Yacht Club.

In February we joined the Marin Yacht Club for a sunny weekend across the Bay where we were welcomed by the Marin Yacht Club Commodore and fellow StFYC member, Donna Purvis. We enjoyed their hospitality and celebrated the Chinese New Year, all while reveling in the company of a huge St. Francis contingent that included five Staff Commodores. We gathered again on Saturday night for a “docktail” event on our boat, Journey, followed by a fabulous group dinner at a French restaurant in San Anselmo. We were certainly off to a great start with this well attended event.

In March, we moved on to see the city lights with a cruise to South Beach Yacht Club. This event was chaired by Doug & Tamara Thorne and was an instant sell-out. We all enjoyed the city views from just past the Bay Bridge as well as the great camaraderie! Throw in some bowling and tequila, and we had the recipe for a great time.

There is still so much fun ahead for the Cruisers’ Group this year. Don’t miss out! You are welcome to join us for the monthly dinners held at the Club, or plan to join us on a cruise. All the events are posted on the club calendar.
