Behind the Scenes with the Entertainment Committee

As we roll into the holiday season, there’s no better time to check in with your Entertainment Committee. This is the time of year when we get to shine. We just wrapped up the Father Daughter Dance in October, a delightful affair themed “Bow Ties & Tiaras.” Now as we launch into November, we prepare for the Commodore’s Ball and then our busiest month, December, with the Children’s Holiday Party, Member’s Holiday Party and Father Son Luncheon. Of course, we wrap it all up with New Year’s Eve, which promises to be another great event!

While our event committees do a great job planning these traditional events, the Committee also likes to add new events to the calendar to engage our members and their families each year. This year, it was a Mother-Daughter Tea, the creation of Commodore Theresa Brandner. It was a sold-out event and will most likely be repeated next year.

In addition to all of this, we work with our talented Associate Members to put on a full roster of Wednesday Night Live evenings, when the room is always filled to capacity with members and guests enjoying the show. This Series continues to highlight the fabulous talents of our Associate members as well as other dedicated members who perform and help run the shows. So far this year we have had some great performances: Brian Ramsey’s 79th Show, Sons of the Sea Broadway Old and New, High Seas Spring Concert, Jim Salestrom, Phil Claypool, and other great performers. We look forward to our final Wednesday Night Live show before the Holidays when Pickford and Lerer perform on November 7!

The meetings are on the first Wednesday of each month beginning at 5:30pm, with the option of joining fellow Committee members for dinner afterward. The Committee is open to all members and spouses; new Club members and Juniors are especially encouraged to join us, so if you are new to the Club, or have some great ideas you would like to share, join the Entertainment Committee! You will meet fellow members and enjoy the camaraderie of committee membership. There is no better way to become part of what is happening at your Club, while making new friends.

At our Committee meetings we plan the events for the calendar year and coordinate them with other Club activities. Entertainment Committee members may choose to chair or co-chair an event or to assist in the event execution. Prior event chairs mentor new chairs and club staff is unfailingly available to assist. Don’t worry—taking on an event assignment need not be daunting, as we have so many talented Associates who are invaluable in accessing entertainment.

Come join us, as we plan and present parties to delight our members and their families!
