A Fascinating Life
Crossing Cultures, Crossing Oceans and Crossing Patagonia
Zia Ahari, Orthopedic Surgeon, Offshore Sailor

Zia Ahari was born in Iran and when the political winds became too unpredictable, he left to practice and teach as an orthopedic surgeon at University in Sweden. In retirement, he built an impressive cruising career, including sailing solo across the Atlantic, from Sweden to America, via the Canary Islands. He was elected to the Cruising Club of America and served on their Board of Governors. He is a Rear Commodore for the San Francisco chapter of CCA. He just completed a passage from Patagonia, through passages at the tip of South America, almost to Cape Horn, before turning back for serious weather. Interweaving his life story of crossing cultures and oceans with the spectacular photography of Chile’s rugged cruising grounds, Zia has created a beautiful and fascinating presentation.
