Dance, Music and Song: The Lively Arts at the PPIE
Laura Ackley, Architect and Author, San Francisco’s Jewel City

The San Francisco Chronicle enthused, “There is music everywhere!” From the first day of the Panama Pacific International Exposition, outdoor band concerts could be heard throughout the grounds. The bright notes of cornets and trombones, punctuated by the crashing of cymbals, emanated from four strategically placed bandstands. The state and international pavilions got into the act with a multitude of other artists, some of whom became big stars after the Exposition. Historian Laura Ackley presents rare photos, recordings and movies of dance, music and song from the 1915 World’s Fair.
