Wander Bird's Cape Horn Passage – A New Perspective

Oleg Harencar, Director and Don Zimmer, Producer of the Documentary Series, Life On The Water

On June 26, 1936 Wander Bird, a majestic 85ft schooner, set sail from Gloucester, MA to San Francisco, via Cape Horn, helmed by Captain Warwick Tompkins, Sr. The crew of 10 included a then 4-year-old, “Commodore” Warwick Tompkins, Jr. The journey was filmed by Tompkins, Sr. with hopes to show in theaters. The dream was never realized. 78 years after that remarkable voyage, filmmaker Oleg Harencar in collaboration with Commodore Tompkins, now 82, has edited the original footage into a new film. This new version narrated by Commodore, will debut at this Wednesday Yachting Luncheon.  Commodore is currently in NZ sailing his boat, Flash Girl and is unable to attend. Oleg will be present for a Q&A and discussion of new projects on his cinematic horizon.
