Join the StFYC Wine Committee and Cathy Corison on December 9 at 6:00pm for a special virtual winetasting. The first woman winemaker-proprietor in the Napa Valley, her world-renowned wines are powerful and elegant with a sense of place, structured to grace the table and enjoy a long, distinguished life. Cathy was the San Francisco Chronicle’s Winemaker of the Year in 2011, a James Beard Award nominee for Outstanding Wine Producer for the last three years and regularly has her wines on Wine & Spirits Magazine’s list of the Top 100 Wines of the World.
We’ll open the tasting with the 2019 Corazón Anderson Valley Gewürztraminer, inspired by the wines of Alsace, which feature Germanic aromatic white varieties made with French winemaking sensibilities. This wine is totally dry and wildly food-friendly. Next we’ll taste the 2019 Corazón Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé, which is a serendipitous by-product of our Cabernet Sauvignon vinification. Totally dry, with snappy natural acidity, this rare Napa Valley benchland Cabernet rosé is barrel-fermented and aged sur lies in older French oak barrels, which adds a yeasty creaminess. Cathy loves verticals because they give us so much to think and talk about, so we’ll finish with the 2016 and 2017 Corison Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignons side-by-side, discussing how wine can speak of both time and place.
Cathy sources some of the finest vineyards in the Napa Valley, all located on classic benchland between Rutherford and St. Helena, where deep, stony alluvial soils provide the ideal growing conditions for the Cabernet vine. These vines regularly produce some of the most concentrated and superbly ripened fruit anywhere. Cathy harvested her 34th vintage of Corison in 2020!
The Virtual Tasting 4-pack of wine is $195 and includes:
